Growth of information technology
in India not only boosted country’s economic strength in the world, but also boosted
employment opportunities in the domestic market. Development of IT hubs such as
Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune, Mumbai, Delhi NCR accelerated country’s
economic growth, software export market and employability. These IT hubs of the
country are responsible for producing tons of jobs for freshers every year.

Having said that, IT has always
been considered as a male-dominated industry. Number of male working in this
segment is way more than the number of females. Despite being a male-dominant
industry, women as a fresher are paid more in the IT industry of India (as per
a recent industry survey).
Women are Paid More
According to the “Salary Survey
2015”, women earn more than their male counterparts in Delhi NCR, which is an
average of INR 9.8 Lakh Per Annum. While a male candidate earn INR 9.6 Lakh Per
Annum (with work experience ranging from 0 to 3 years).
Another city where a female IT
professional earn more than the male IT professional is Hyderabad. In this
age-old ‘City of Nizams’ women earn an annual package of INR 9.7 Lakh per annum
while a male IT professional is paid INR 9.4 Lakh per annum (with work experience
ranging from 0 to 3 years). The salary is equal to INR 17.7 Lakh per annum with
work experience ranging from 7-10 years (suggested by the report).
Equal Salary for Both Genders

In highly developed cosmopolitan
IT hub of the country such as Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore both the genders
earn equal money. With higher proximity to western work culture, these
cosmopolitan capital cities of India does not showcase any kind of biasness in
regards to the work experience or gender. Professionals in this city are paid
according to their skills and performance.
Salary in Other Industry Domain
Other industries are a bit biased
when it comes to female workforce and their annual salaries. There is a huge pay
gap rises in other work domains.

Key Finding:
- Men earn almost double than the women counterparts in Accounting and Taxation sector especially in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai. There is almost 50% increase in the salary of male candidates with work experience ranging between 7 to 10 years in Delhi. Similarly, a male candidate earn around INR 54.7 Lakh per annum with work experience ranging from 11 to 15 years, whereas for female it is 22.5 Lakh per annum.
- In ITES/BPO/Customer Service industry, men earn 45.5% more than the women with over 15 years of work experience.
- In Banking and Finance, Both genders earn almost equal pay cheques in Hyderabad.
- In HR, men earn 1.5% higher than the female counterparts with over 15 years of work experience.
