Accepting the ‘Change’ is the True Leadership

Creating effective leadership in organizations is not a new topic. But, there is an increased research made on the importance of leaders’ vital role in organizational effectiveness, health, and performance. This emphasis on the significance of successful leadership offers a chance to HR leaders to actually make a transformation in their organizations. If HR is able to nurture a worthy leadership, they can grow as a great help in safeguarding the future of an operational workforce.

Leaders are born with leadership skills. But, the truth is learning more skills and polishing the existing ones are even more essential factors for a successful leadership. Leadership skills can be improved if one is willing to adopt ‘changes’ and act accordingly. Effective leadership is understanding, accepting and implementing the change.



There are three elements associated with the ‘change’ in the professional world. These three aspects influence the role of HR in creating a balanced, positive and effective leadership in their organization. Subsequent points would help you know them:

Accepting Technological Change
The success of a contemporary HR leadership style is based on recognizing and accepting available technological changes as early as possible. Accepting new HR learnings through various channels is also important. Further, implementing the current technology to the business is crucial. Besides, implementation of modern available tools, it is also crucial to develop or customize technology as per organization’s individual business requirements. It can be achieved only when organizations are ready to accept technological changes and customization on a large scale.

For example, upgrading on-premise recruitment management software such as ATS to a cloud-based (SaaS) service would be an important decision to boost recruitment process. Of course, if technological upgradation happens in a work environment, it must be carrying more advances and benefits.  

Accepting Modern Communication
Today’s generation is a mobile freak community and they love to keep their communication mode quite handy. Traditional business communication is limited to mails only. But, recent communication methods have come out to be casual in their medium, but still formal in what needs to be delivered as a message.

For example, WhatsApp has revolutionized the way we communicate. Gen y and z are more frequent and accustomed to such communication tools, in fact, baby boomers and Gen X enthusiastically come in the same list. Leaders must embrace this change and be happily ready to receiving communication through casual communication modes.        

Accepting Learnings from Subordinates
Ego never leads anyone anywhere! In fact, it voids the possibilities to learn and grow. Self-learning has a limited scope for gaining knowledge until one combines it with learnings from others’ experiences even from juniors. Accepting the truth that you being a leader also need ideas and inputs to add more value to your leadership skills would be an appreciable effort.

Leaders have to adjust the capacity of their learnings and appreciate the valuable professional lessons from their assistances. Leaders must accept that there will be an abundance of opportunity to polish their leadership skills through the positive vibes of their subordinates. On the other hand, leaders must always appreciate if their subordinates bring ideas to them.

Conclusively, HR leader must embrace - a) extreme technological changes happening around be it SaaS-based recruitment management software, payroll tools or any other HR tools, b) handy & casual modes of communication, c) taking inputs from younger generation for self-learning and fresh ideas, and (d) welcoming fresh HR learnings to the organization. Accepting the change is essential and combining it with ideas from youngsters would be more impactful for polishing the leadership style in this contemporary world.
